The city of Canterbury boasts many historical and cultural attractions within its walls. This Roman city is overlooked by its magnificent cathedral. Over 1 million visitors each year visit the mother church of the Anglican community, a world heritage site, to marvel at the beauty of its stunning architecture, to discover some of its historical past or to enjoy a quiet moment in an otherwise bustling city. St, Augustines Abbey, the ruins of Canterbury Castle, and Canterbury’s many museums and cultural attractions also tell you about the city’s amazing history.

Canterbury also boasts a vibrant and active arts scene with the Marlowe and Gulbenkian theatres, art galleries and a variety of music events. The city comes alive every October with its multi arts festival. Canterbury also has plenty for sports fans as St. Lawrence cricket ground within the city, is regularly used for Kent CCC and, on occasion, England games.

The streets of Canterbury are lined with an eclectic mix of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. You can take a break from the high street in one of the parks within the city centre or maybe even relax on a boat trip along the River Stour.

Not far from Canterbury is the unspoilt seaside town of Whitstable. The town, famous for its oysters, is known as the ‘Pearl of Kent’. The maritime heritage of the town is celebrated with the oyster festival in July. There are several seafood stalls, a market and restaurants in the town for you to sample the ‘fruits de mer’. The town’s beaches, which flank its harbour, are perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Sailing trips are available to, amongst other places, a seal watching spot in the Thames Estuary. Whitstable is also a popular destination for watersport enthusiasts and hosts the national waterski championships.
